I think the "Depends" type of incontinence diapers have greater absobency than tampons. They ran into problems with tampons that were too absorbant a few years ago and some of the users dyed of toxic shock. But I think the externally worn diapers such as worn by race car drivers, astronauts, pilots who fly long missions in cramped space, etc., would be more effective. In fact, my daughter-in-law gave me some bags that kids can use in a car if they decide they have to go at some inconvenient time. She got them in a store somewhere. I took them on a trip with my grandson but we didn't need them. They appeared to be lined with a super absorbant material.
