Hey folks,
My little tractor
German Farmall, 3cyl diesel (DD-111) motor. Glow plugs themselves are OK (haven't checked power supply). Temps are between 20 and 30.
Two part problem that may or may not be related.
1) starter doesn't engage all the time until (it seems) the motor is a little warmer. When it does finally catch, it releases after a couple revolutions. 2) When it does crank, BLACK smoke that would put a locomotive to shame until it finally kicks in and runs (then it is fine).
For #1, could it be the starter solenoid giving out?
and #2, I was out of diesela couple weeks ago and filled an empty tank with heating oil.
After things warm up, it starts fine and doesn't smoke.
