I transplanted a couple of trees this evening, and it was a lot more work than I really wanted to do. My old fat body was huffing and puffing. I was wondering if someone has fabricated an effective tree spade for a 3 point hitch. I was looking at single shank plow (looks a lot like a potato spade). I was thinking of mounting it backwards on the 3 point and take a cylinder and connect between the tractor and horizontal member between the lift arms to push down on the plow. Also, I thought I'd adjust the top link very short to have the tip pointing outward so as to push downward with the cylinder connected to the remote, and push backwards at the same time with the tractor. Of course, I would have to position the tractor several times around the tree being removed, but it's a lot less labor than using a ditching shovel by hand. Any successes in making a tree spade?
