Brake controllers cost from $40 to over $100, and you really do get what you pay for. I have a Teshonka that does the job, but- like other posts say,you cannot add braking power in emergencies. The newer electronic controllers don't work like the old hyd. controllers.The brakes/axle issue in Indiana states that after a specified year, all trailers must have brakes on all axles. It is NOT retroactive to old trailers mfgd. before the specified date. At least according to the state policeman I asked.All trailers however, must have a breakaway controller, regardless of year made.
