I have this trouble with my short belt driving our sheller and hammermill off the Model B A/C. It's because there's not enough tension (I like a lot of droop in the belt). We end up chaining the machines to a post since they weigh very little and cannot provide resistence though friction on the ground. I guess that's why there are bolt holes in the legs. On a real long belt like at the Threshers shows runing saws etc, I guess it makes no difference since the belt has adequate distance to center itself.
