I used to work as an engineer in International"s truck group, and I don"t know exactly what the differences are. As someone already noted, I"m sure the 4900 is generally considered more heavy duty. Probably the "standard" configuration of the 4900 has heavier frame rails and various other features. However, with medium and heavy duty trucks there is a lot of room for customization of each model, with the result that you could probably build two different models to be virtually identical (except for the model number badge, of course). In short, the model number itself won"t tell you a great deal about those trucks. Need to really look at how they"re optioned (GVWR (as you noted), engine, transmission, frame rails, suspension, etc.), everything"s custom with these trucks.
