I'm familiar with your 317,pull off one plug wire at a time and see which one makes a difference. I think you will find you have either a hole in a piston or most probably a broken connecting rod. If your tractor has the original Kohler 2 cylinder, DO NOT LET ANYONE talk you into trying to fix it! That engine is strictly a throw away, and don't get one of those "cheaper" ones from a mail order catalouge because it won't have the correct crankshaft most likely.
