Adding weight to a 2wd tractor does increase traction if the f/r ratio is right.
Putting a full rack on the front of a 2wd in soft soil with a load that isn't so much downwards like a large trailed disc won't help you much. May even hurt in soft ground.
Add that weight to the rear axle or just forward of it and you're much better off.
The 4wd doesn't care that much, both weight positions will help to a degree.
