Sure sounds like 1 inch black polyethylene pipe. Standard as heck, available in 100 psi, 160 psi and 200 psi ratings (with thicker walls). Not having gophers, I've had no trouble with it, and it sounds like you already have the stuff anyway. I do use the 160 rather than the 100 PSI simply to be more durable in the rocks, but leaks are almost always at poorly done fittings in my experience, or from careless backfilling.
Typical is this type of barbed fitting and a pair (on each side) of stainless steel (if you know what's good for you) hose clamps (bottom of the page) over the barbs on the outside of the pipe.
Other suppliers may have the plastic version of the fittings. This was just a quick look for a web site showing them. This is plastic ones if the link works.
