Have had both GM and Ford products for the better part of 30 years. Have seen many issues and doubt this is going to put a dent in Toyota in the long run. Anyone remember GM's failed attempted at their own diesel engine in the early 80's? Gas tanks in, or I should say outside the frame on their pickups? The link below is an example of who at Ford knew what and when they knew it. Last I heard ford was doing pretty good.......
