I mow my open pasture 2x each year to keep the weeds/greenbriers/multiflora rose from getting a foothold. I use a 5ft. brushog(sharp blades) on a Ferg. TO30 and mow in second gear without difficulty. Occasionally I cut a sapling 1-1 1/2in., using first gear. I use a slip clutch to avoid breaking something. A TO30 has 19.2 drawbar hp. Perhaps this info will help.
