The stuff really works. I watched the demonstration 3 times and copied every move in my uses of it. Part of the process is to press the rod really hard against the aluminum. For this large part, it may require oxy/acetylene to get enough heat. But for polished aluminum, this will have a different color and will "weather" differently. I would use it where the part is to be painted or where color does not matter.
