I would recommend getting a tractor with a three point hitch rather than a back hoe, unless the ONLY thing you plan to do is dig with a back hoe. If you get a three point, you can always get a three point mounted back hoe that is removable. Yhis will allow you to pull a shredder, disc, scoop, or whatever. Witha mounted back hoe, you can't do any of these things. In my opinion, 4WD is not a must, but that all depends on your situation. We have a John Deere 2040 (40 horse power) and a 143 loader on it. It is an excellent combination and handles most three point hitch mounted implements well.
