If you are going to go the 'engine oil' route, I would use straight 30 weight, Non-Detergent.
The modern detergent oils do not burn for doo-doo, and the old 30 weight was used extensively as 2-cycle mix oil for decades. Modern '2-cycle' is formulated to mix faster than 30W, but I still use the 30W in my saws and lawnmowers.
I have no idea how this translates to diesels though...
