Man Gene, I can't hardly stand to do that dog killing (unless it's a menace).

I remember when I was a teenager, an old neighbor had a dog that was in bad shape, hardly any hair left, feeble and thin. He flagged me down - wanted me to help him kill his dog. We stuck the dog under a washtub and ran a hose from my Ford exhaust under the tub. We'd sit on the back bumper and he'd cry (the old man) and after about 15 minutes we raised the tub up to see if he was dead (the dog). Ol Shep looked up at us and blinked his old cataraced eyes. The old man fell down there and hugged the dog. He died later of natural causes (the dog). Well - the old man too, but not at the same time.

Had an old woman who wanted me to kill her cat for a dollar. I couldn't do it, but said I knew someone who could. Billy hated cats - when we got to the old lady's house, Billy said, "Kin you ketch it?" She said, "Oh yes", and brought a saucer of milk out in the back yard. Here come the cat with her tail sticking straight up. Billy grabbed the cat by the tail and bashed it's head against a clothline post. The old lady said, "You little $h1T A$$!" and slapped the dollar in his hand. I had no idea he was gonna kill it in front of her, but looking back, I guess I shoulda known. . .

Paul

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
