That would depend on what condition they're in and what else you're feeding them. If the ribs are sticking out looking at you, you better get some grain into them. If they're carrying a good bit of flesh and on good hay they'll probably be fine. We're just feeding silage to our few remaining beef cows right now. They're holding their own which is good enough... but if they're thin you need to get some energy into them. A few pounds a day of barley (or something similar that's readily available) can go a long way. Too much and rolling fat is just as much trouble as too thin as well...
