: : : Just got an old Massey (around 1964). Can someone tell me what kind of motor oil to put in it (i.e. weght and detergent or not) and whethter it takes a hydraulic filter, and how much hydraulic fluid? Thanx
: : Larry I have a 1963 MF-35 and the recommended Oilt to use are by temperature. 1. 32 -90 degrees 20 or 20/20W, 2. min. temp. 10W, 3. min. temp. -10 5W or 5W/20, 4. daytime temp. exceeding 90 degrees SAE 30
: : One other thing 5 US quarts of Oil.
: : For the Hydraulic System the book says SAE 80, 8 gallons

: Further to Larry's comments, we use 10W-30 in our MF diesel engines, auto grade (SE,SF,SJ) for light work, and Diesel (CD) for severe service. The trans lube should be Massey Permatran or equivalent - we use Coop Trans-hydraulic.
: Straight hydraulic oil doesn't have some of the additives to keep the gears lubricated effectively.

: Filter: the later 35's had a screen filter on the internal pump. It's a cleanable mesh screen in a sort-of can 2"d, 5"h, at the back left of the pump, and accessible through the side covers.

: Caution: if the oil level is up to full, oil will run out when those covers are removed.

: Hope this helps!

Thank you gentlemen for the valuable advice, it helped a lot
