Dish washer failed yesterday, had been very noisy for a while, so I was sure it was a motor bearing. Repair website had advice that there was nothing repairable about new motor. Oh, they had a new one for $113.55, plus tax and shipping. When I got it torn down, the good ball bearing looked fairly common. Took it to a backyard starter/alternator shop of a friend. He looked in a couple parts drawers, and on second drawer, he came up with an exact replacement. said it was a common bearing in some GM starters. (Seems awfully small for such service, but starters aren't what they used to be!) Took a little doing to get remains of old bearing out, new one went in very easily. So for an afternoon's work, and a couple bucks I have the dish washer washing again. Sometimes it pays to think out of the ordinary when looking for repair parts, etc.
