Sorry can't help. Within the last two years did see them but don't recall year or episode. In the early years the family was pretty aggressive even Hoss to a certain extent. Ben had a hot temper and shooting/killing was considered reasonable to settle a dispute. In the two shows covering Adam's and Hoss' mothers, Ben was much more reflective and wise, so had to be somewhere in mid-production when they were running out of new ideas. Also saw the episode where Ben met Little Joe's mother which was also not an early one, but didn't see how she died. Someone indicated that an earlier showed called The Ponderosa mentioned that she died from an explosion.
