As I said before Roberts had a poor attitude toward the show and its fans. However, I think the show is much better for having Adam in it than without it. I thought it gave the show a quite of bit of balance to offset the plots where Hoss is depicted as a buffoon or the women are all over Little Joe. Roberts was right in some of his concerns such as making sure minority actors played minority parts and making sure the show did not fall into the pattern of a simple shoot-em up Western. I don't normally like to see parts recast and could not readily see anybody else take over for Roberts. I felt the show lost some its balance when Adam was written out much like when the Waltons lost Grandpa. It never had the same flavor for me. Roberts is a part of Bonanza history like it or not.
