So you can open and close the points by hand and get a spark at the points??? If yes then next check the coil wire, as in open and close the points by hand with the coil wire close to the engine block. You should get a blue/white spark for that wire that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. If the is there then you may have a bad cap and or rotor. Seen rotors go bad and also the way this weather has been this year and being so wet an cracked cap will do that. There is a way of testing the cap but you will only do it once and cause me if you do it. With the key on hold the cap with one hand and spin the engine. If the cap is cracked you will jump because you will get zap-u-troned big time
