When I was a young lad about 10-12 years old, there was an old man in the village that I revered very highly....as my grand dad was dead....I sorta adopted him and he in like fashion..sorta adopted me. My uncle ran a country store and it was the loafing spot for all the old codgers and locals and of course, I hung around this 'eclectic' group of sages...hehe!
Old Bob, the man I took to, was somewhat of a catbird...what slickers might refer as 'mischievous.'
Anyway, one day I asked him, 'Bob, did you ever live anywhere else but here?' He studied for a minute and said 'well, I used to own a couple houses across the river and I stayed there quite a bit.'
Puzzled, I asked, 'How did you come to own two houses across the river?'
He looked at me with a wry grin and said, "I bought'em one piece at time."
It took me a couple more years to figure that one out.....and I still chuckle about it 40 years later!
