966 IH hydraluics

A friend of mine was moving big round bales of hay with the three point bale spear and one of the pins came out of the top arms he stoped and put in back in place with a new pin but now the three point will only go down about three inches and it stops it will go up and then down only the three inches has anyone got any ideas what to look for?
