I did an M last summer with a 10SI Delco. Problem with the large diameter alternators like a SI series Delco is that there is little room to swing the alternator from side to side to adjust the belt. Not much room between the valve cover and hood for adjustment. We built the alternator bracket with verticle slots 1.5 inches long where the bracket bolts to the engine. This allows the alternator to move straight up/down to adjust the belt with hardly any side to side swing. It appears to work well and is an easy thing to build.
