Not sure on the 555 but I suspect it's similar to the newer Lx and LS machines... on those you need to pull the applicable axle and roll the sprocket around until you get the chain on. I seem to recall the brake discs getting in the way of the rear chain as well. There's a sequence to it and you'll just have to play with it. If it was me I'd change the other one while I was in there, for all they cost... as one being bad, the other is likely just as worn.
