#1. A 9N Ford. Moved from town to country in '85. Was sitting on break at work and mentioned to the coffee table crowd that I needed something to plow the driveway. (Indiana gets snow!!) A woman there said her father was retiring from farming and had an 'old Ford' to sell. She brought me a photo that looked like an 8N. When I went to look it was a 9N painted wrong. Bought it anyway. A neighbor saw me on it and dragged me kicking and screaming to the local tractor club where I joined and bought a hat. #2. I was wearing the hat at the county fair where I was helping weigh and number 4H sheep. Another helper noticed the hat and asked if I was interested in an F20 for $250. #3. No. 1 son saw a John Deere styled 'A' soon after we moved to the country when he was only 5-6 years old. He finally found one in "Farmweek" and the guy sold it to him for about half his asking price. By the way, the son figured out a way to re-bale broken straw bales straight from the loft and paid for this tractor in 5 work days. #4. A cousin died and his widow didn't want his John Deere 'E' engine to get out of the family. #5. The tractor club neighbor heard from a friend of a friend about a Ford Jubilee which I bought and later sold to make room for... #6. a Ferguson F-40 my grandfather-in-law used when it was new on a farm he managed which my father-in-law bought when the farmer retired. Whew! The main thing is to just 'get out there' and look. You'll meet a lot of nice people and have a lot of fun.
