I put an 8 volt in my 51' Farmall H on a "tip" from a friend. I found out it does spin the starter a little faster,but, that is the only benefit I could see.After 3 or 4 times using the tractor the battery will be dead,or,it will die out in the feild and leave you hoofin' it.The voltage regulators today are rivited together,so you can't tweak them,and,they only come 6 or 12 volt,and so the battery will never recharge properly. If you hook an 8 volt to a regular charger it wont do squat on 6v setting,and on 12v setting you can hear the water bubbling inside the battery.Don't know how safe that is. I cleaned all electrical connections and went back to 6 volts, and , haven't had a problem.
