There's lots of kinds of audits, regular audits where 'red flags' appear, lifestyle audits, and research audits. I got selected for a research audit, ended up covering 4 years the way the statutes ran. Gawd, that was aweful. Plus, it was for a year where my ex and I were still married AFTER we had gotten divorced. I thought they were going to eat my lunch with all the stuff they requested. It wasnt so bad in the end. I pulled everything and took it to my accountant. She totalled it up and I gave her full authority to represent me. I met one time with the auditor at the farm, showed her my stuff. She came in twice for two days each and met with my accountant. A year later I got a letter saying that I didnt owe anything but they did need to amend my return. I signed it and sent it back.
