I have a about 15 acres of hills at my place and they are very steep. I hated the feeling the first time I tried to Hog it and the big farm up the raod wouldn't touch it with his equipment. I now keep a 30' path up the hill mowed with my lawn tractor by going up and down, this path allows me to go up with my tractor and down without having to go the long way. For the rest of the hill I cleared it by hand and that took a while, while I did that I started planting sugar maples, for firewood and an eventual sugar bush, most likely my grand kids will see that. The seedlings are cheap and they take pretty well and seem to be a more productive use of the land than a hill would be...I mow paths and around the small trees with my DR Mower to keep the scrub out. Like I said the Hog on that hill scared the heck out of me, and I'd rather down a beer than tumble down a hill with a Hog running...that would be a nightmare...although I think I will get some sheep in a few years to run around there when the trees are a bit bigger...should be nice.
