In my tough soils I need 21 hp per bottom, on 16 inch bottoms.
Many can get by with 16-18 hp per bottom on lighter soils.
I have 136 hp tractor pulling a 4-18 plow, and it's a nice match. Sometimes I can drive fast. Sometimes the front end gets light & it pulls pretty hard in a lower gear. The joys of hard clay....
