On the front of the engine there is a cap screw with a spring behind it. You can pump some cornhead grease or gear grease in there and it may prime the pump. It is also possible that when you removed the drain plug you dislodged the pick-up tube,if that is the case you are screwed. The pan must be removed and the pickup resoldered to the pump.
