We got married in our barn 16 years ago, and it seems to have worked okay. We're still married and still like each other.
We had originally planned a wedding behind our house in the field, middle of November. Then, the day of the wedding we had a freak hail and snow storm. So, moved everybody in the barn and got married right there with animals sounds for background noise.
We never regretted it. And it hardly cost anything. In fact, my wife's parents handed us $10,000 that they had been saving for many years for their "daughter's wedding day." Since we didn't blow it, they gave us the cash and we bought 50 acres of remote woods. Still own it. To the converse, my wife's little sister spent over $20,000 on her wedding and now has nothing to show for it but a bunch of photos and video tapes.
