No the Deere heater is not that much better. And the gallon rating really is not that important either. A tank heater will have a built-in thermostat and shut itself off once it gets hot. The bigger you use, the faster it can heat the engine up. But, the bigger you go, the better the extension cord has to be. 1500 watt is a good general size. I've got a 2000 watt on little 144 c.i. IH diesel tractor. Not because I needed it that big, more because I just happened to have the heater on the shelf. To the converse, my 3-53 Detroit has a 750 watt heater and it takes a long time to warm up.
