Mike, that was very true before USB ports and embedded software programs. Nowadays, you can plug in a UBS from various devices such as a printer, MS already has the software preloaded to run the most popular devices. It will find the software, load it if it is not loaded already, and then let you know the device is ready. When done, you can leave it plugged in or unplug it. Very usefull on lap tops that move around or travel.
