Jon, The new alternator is a three wire unit. I have the #2 going to the ignition switch and is being turned on with the coil. Electrically it is the same as being hooked to the battery terminal only when the switch is turned on. I figured if I switched it off it could not accidently run my battery down. Should I change it and hook it directly to the battery terminal on the back of the alternator? Not a problem if I need to. Bill
