Thanks to ALL who have responded! This is just a note to Thank each and everyone for their response. An update to where I am. I went out and jumpered all connections together. Actually, I just need to jump off the "Hot" wire off the back of the alt. to the terminal plug. There are two terminals there but they are connected and each read 12 volts when the engine is off. For RPM, the alt is driven off the fan pulley shaft, and the pulley on the fan shaft actually looks slightly smaller then the alternator pulley. This will slow the alt. down. The pulley on the crank does not look all that much bigger then the one that is driven on the fan shaft. After connecting the terminals up and the voltage reading did not change a bit, I believe the alt is bad. I will go to a parts store and let them check it for sure, and then get a good one. I need only the lowest amp available, as it is just powering the coil and starter. Thanks again, and I will keep you posted. Bill McKinney P.S. I printed out the schematic for the alternator hook up. I am changing to a three (two) wire system.
