I just have to put in my two cents worth. I have had both 1 wire and 3 wire alternators and I can safely say it is not worth the grief to rig up a one wire alternator. A standard 10-SI Delco-Remy alternator is no big deal to wire. One of the wires is a short jumper wire connected within the alternator itself. The other(large gauge wire) goes to the ammeter. The BAT terminal wire gets hooked to the battery (solenoid). Do this and forget about worrying about RPM's. As one of the fellows said one wire alternators are a POS.
