and so on in classic (normal/default) view of ytmag.
for example, the "roll" face rolls its eyes and the "cry" face has tears.
these faces are considered useful to convey the feeling of the sentence you just typed. saying "i hate you" followed by a smile changes the meaning of the words to being a joke. or "tractor from hell" followed by a devil face helps indicate how intensely you feel the tractor is indeed from a bad place.
Usually I read in classic view, and other than having to skip a word like "roll," in the middle of the message, it does not bother me, just confuses me for a 1/2 second til i remember what it is.
The only issue is when the animated face would clear up the fact that a person was just joking around. I suppose an argument should be made for good writing that's clear and to the point in that case...
technology and pictures, and alphabet soup acronyms are replacing good writing.
