Biggest difference is the Power Director- a hand clutch that gives high and low in each gear, plus the middle position is a clutch, so you get live pto and hyd. WD & 45 have live power with the hand clutch, but not a high and low range in each gear. About a quarter million WD and WD45 were built, (WD45 starts at SN 146607), vs 68 thousand D17. D17 had a bit more power and weight, and later ones had the 3 pt. hitch option, instead of the Snap-Coupler system. Beginners should stay away from the diesel versions, either tractor. Not all that dependable.
