I would have a look at the Yanmar YM2000D series of compact tractors. It is very well built (just ask JD), 3 pt hitch, 4 wheel drive and has mid 20's for horsepower. No live PTO, but add a over running clutch and you are safe. For about 4,500 you get what would cost you 13,000+ from a retailer.
