Backhoe Models

Hi, I'm think of getting a proper (but cheap) backhoe/loader, and I wonder if anyone could suggest sources of information about the different models, and key differences. Round here JCB is most common, 3cII would be about my price range. MF50 has also been suggested but I've not yet seen one for sale. What about 4x4? Is this useful/necessary? I'll need to operate on a reasonable slope sometimes (up and down, not across!) Is this the right board, or is another discussion group more relevant? Thanks in advance, sorry for the rambling question.
