I've had my Hughes system for 3 years and the only problem I have had is that for some reason ants built a nest in the LNB on the dish. I have been very happy with their customer service when I have called, but I haven't had to call them in over 2 years. Your problem sounds like something Hughes should own up to and correct.

As far as the equipment being cheap, you're right. I work in the aerospace electronics industry. Our current job involves building equipment that works with the same satellite signals, and I have seen the inside of the Hughes, RCA, and Sony receivers and they are like all other consumer electronics. But to have stuff built in the U.S. runs the cost out of sight, due to the hand labor involved in assembling the RF circuitry.
