I always called a rear-mounted blade, as opposed to a belly mount, or a front mount that might involve the loader arms, a back blade. When I use mine, I might say that I'm backblading, or scraping, or grading or . . .
That's as distinct from the technique of back-blading, which is what I'm hearing described here, and can be done with a blade mounted in any of the three positions. Depending on the mount and the blade length, it is accomplished by either reversing the blade or operating a forward facing blade with the tractor in reverse, as the others have said. Just as valid a view as my own, obviously, and quite useful for smoothing and leveling without digging up more to complicate the job. Around here, we call it back-dragging. Quite apart from earthwork, it's also quite common with truck-mounted blades in snow removal from corners and pockets.
