Hi Mike
I tryied repling to your splitting post,would not work.To the point,I believe you can change the clutch on a 40 without splitting.Simply remove the necasary parts and slide the motor forward on the tub.Replace the clutch on the spline,slide motor back in place with original shimms,button down,then bolt clutch to flyweel,reassemble.
