Best general reference on steam traction engines that I've seen is the "Encyclopedia of American Steam Traction Engines" by Jack Norbeck (Crestline 1976) I think it's out of print, but there are still a lot of copies floating around at sales and auctions. Another possible future choice may be "The Surviving World Steam Vehicles" database. A texas gentleman is trying to catalogue all remaining steam powered land vehicles, and their current condition. I've sent the fellow a bunch of information and pictures for this rather ambitious project. For those who are curious more about the care and operation of these machines, the "Case Steam Engine Manual" is a good choice (Lindsay Reprint of a 1915 JI Case owners manual)
