jdemaris, Sorry, I was out of line. I hope you accept my appology. You are correct about the price of tha timming belt but their is more to it than that. It was, on my car anyway, recommended changing the belt tensioner, 3 idler rollers, motor mount streach bolts, water pump, thermostat, several seals and gaskets, special antifreeze and some stuff I am sure I forgot. Just the parts are going to cost more than 10 times $30. $300 worth of gas would push a similar size gas car about 10,000 miles down the road. I am glad you like your diesels. I liked my Jetta, but I found it was just to expensive to operate, and it wasn't just the timming belt or it being a diesel. The tail light, the air conditioner compressor, the headlight switch, ect. Everything that went wrong was outragously expensive to fix.
