Yeah, well times change but people do not.
I don't beleve any of this conspiracy nonsense. If an auto maker believed that Americans (USA,Canada and maybe Mexico)were lining up waiting for diesels, and they believed they'd sell and they could make a profit, they'd do it.
In the past when diesel rigs were not all that expensive, more utilitarian, diesel fuel was cheaper then gas, etc. . . . they still did not sell. The reasons for that have not changed.
Now diesel is usually more exspenive than gasoline, diesel options are very expensive, utitarian type autos in the USA are non-existant, and emmissions regs for diesels are going crazy. And one more problem. The average American consumer is more clueless then even when it comes to maintaining his/her own rig.
A CEO of an auto company would be nuts to try.
I assume, or hope, that many who post on these forums are mechanically inclined. Going by that, anybody here could easily find an older diesel car cheap, fix it up and use it. I suspect few are. And if you in Canada instead of the USA? It's even easier. Last I checked Canadians get to buy some pretty neat Japanese and European diesel cars and SUVs (as long as they're not new) and we cannot do that in the USA.
