I prefer a diesel. In fact my wife just flat out enjoys her VW TDI. What a little torque-monster that engine is. So far, the drawback that I"ve experienced is the expense of replacing the timing belt. One would think that the folks at VW would make it easier and cheaper to do that maintenance.
So far, it starts in cold Minnesota winter weather, but not always the first try on very cold days.
More folks should take a test drive in one, perhaps that would cause a re-thinking of the electric hybrid battery car.
