I'm assuming you have more than one battery, and a 24V starting system? In any event the first thing I'd do is check each and every connection and cable. Make sure everything is clean and tight, and the cables don't have interior corrosion under the jacket, if you can. If in doubt, replace. New cables are a heck of a lot cheaper than new batteries. Second thing I'd do is make sure all the cells in all the batteries are topped off. I've heard arguments in both directions from people who should know, but I ALWAYS use distilled water when topping off batteries. Then put a good charger on it, make sure the charger connections (usually spring clamps) are good. See what you get. If still no joy, take the individual battery(s) to a shop and have them load tested. This will tell you if you have shorted cells. One cell in one battery will foul up the whole system in a series/parallel battery hookup. Good luck, and hope this helps.
