: : : ive had to jump my cub latley cause of a poor battery, what does this do to my wiring system? second question, i've been doing some front end plowing with her and alittle while into it she seemed to cough and then the idle and accleration was at take off was very speratic. then when it stalled it would not start back up ,so then i was able to jump start it(many times till i could get it back to the barn).Pulled the carb off, and noticed i needed a gasket between carb and intake.Put that on ,also cleaned carb and all parts(main jet pick up tube floats)and when i tried to pull her to life sshe didnt seem to have enough juice so i jumped it again ran great but when i shut it off it will only start when i was giving it a jump(seemed because the moter was turing at such a fast cycle)BUT NOW IT WONT START AT ALL HELP!!

: : I guess you know now what its doing to your wiring system. Was there more smoke from the wires or the starter?

: I don't deny that you may have done something to your electrical system, but don't automatically jump to that conclusion. I've used a 12 volt battery on my 6 volt starter motor for years. If you're not doing continuous cranking, it's not a problem. Understand that's on an old tractor that has a magneto system.

: I'm less confident of whay might happen to your coil/accessory system by jump starting from a 12 volt. Bottom line of what I've learned is that 12 volts does not damage starter motor is short bursts. Again the other electrical accessories could be a problem.

I have a clear memory of what can happen when you jump start a 6V system with a 12V battery. I can still hear the sound like a 12 gague up close and see the whole side of the 6V battery blown away. I guess it had something to do with a hydrogen explosion. Some thing to worry about. Paul
